2001–2026

  1. 2001Rail Foundation

    SAFLog established its rail operations, becoming one of the first Black-owned companies to receive an RSR Train Operator Permit.

  2. 2002–2004Long-Standing Rail Partnerships

    Expansion of rail services across multiple industrial sites.

  3. 2004–2005First Owned Locomotive

    Acquired its first locomotive (LO1), strengthening its independent rail operating capability.

  4. 2005Locomotive Refurbishment | Modderfontein

    Refurbished a locomotive at Modderfontein, strengthening technical and operational capability.

  5. 2006Expanding Rail Operations and Maintenance

    Expanded rail operations in Richards Bay and assumed responsibility for the operation’s overall rail maintenance.

  6. 2007Expanding the Locomotive Fleet

    Acquired and refurbished two additional locomotives (LO6 and LO7) for operations in Richards Bay.

  7. 2012Gibela Contract Awarded

    Through its shareholding in uBumbano Rail, SAFLog secured participation in the Gibela consortium, marking a significant milestone in South Africa’s passenger rail transformation.

  8. 2013Passenger Rail Contract Delivery

    Commenced contract delivery on the passenger rail programme.

  9. 2013Siding Operations and Development

    Expanded rail and siding operations at Lohatlha and achieved consecutive loading of 104-wagon trains in under 10 hours.

  10. 2013Terminal Logistics Investment

    Established an equity stake in terminal operations, extending its participation in the logistics value chain.

  11. 2014–2015Iron-Ore Rail Operations

    Expanded rail operations supporting iron-ore logistics at Kolomela.

  12. 2016Rail Manufacturing Investment

    Established an equity interest in a railway-wheel manufacturing venture.

  13. 2017Fleet Acquisition and Siding Construction

    Acquired AC locomotives and secured its first rail-siding construction project at a passenger rail yard.

  14. 2018Diversified and Cross-Border Rail Services

    Expanded into ballasting and industrial rail operations at Welkom and extended activities into the Makhala/Mozambique–Tete corridor and the Tanzania–Zambia railway, deploying AC locomotives (L49 and L50).

  15. 2020Port and Surface-Plant Operations

    Expanded into vessel loading and offloading and established surface-plant operations.

  16. 2021Rail Maintenance and Packing Services

    Secured rail-siding maintenance work at eThekwini and continued industrial packing services.

  17. 2022Port Facility and Rolling-Stock Maintenance

    Expanded into port-facility operations at Durban’s Iran Road facility and secured rolling-stock and surface-rail maintenance work.

  18. 2023Continued Siding Development

    Continued rail and siding operations and infrastructure development at Lohatlha.

  19. 2024Expanded Rail Maintenance

    SAFLog was awarded the AECI rail maintenance contract.

  20. 2025Terminal Shunting and Maintenance

    Trade Africa Terminals contract awarded to SAFLog for shunting and maintenance.

  21. 202625 Years of Operations

    Marked 25 years of operations and secured a new contract in Saldanha.
