Industry context

SAFLog provides specialised logistics and terminal operations support to the automotive industry, with experience across terminal operations, materials handling, rail logistics and vehicle movement management. Our capabilities support the efficient flow of vehicles between vessels, terminals, storage yards, road transport and rail infrastructure.

Durban Car Terminal

During the 2017–2018 period, SAFLog provided operational support at the Durban Car Terminal, one of South Africa's largest Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vehicle terminals and a key gateway for automotive imports and exports. Our core scope activities included: driving vehicles on and off RoRo vessels; marshalling and parking vehicles in storage yards; conducting vehicle inspections; managing vehicle movements within the terminal; assisting with vessel loading and discharge operations; and supporting terminal logistics and documentation processes.

Automotive operating context

During this period, the terminal experienced strong automotive throughput, with volumes exceeding budget expectations and continuing to grow, significantly above the historical average of approximately 480 000 vehicles. This performance contributed to a record 510 936 fully built units handled during the 2018/19 financial year, demonstrating the scale and high-volume operational environment in which SAFLog provided support.

The Durban RoRo Terminal also maintained a strong reputation for safety and operational standards, holding NOSA recognition and ISO certifications during the period.
